In a groundbreaking initiative to combat crime and social deviance in Kawangware, Rockey Africa Foundation has partnered with Crossover Basketball Ambassadors (CBA), a Kenyan non-profit Christian ministry, to sponsor a locally held basketball tournament.
Rockey Africa Foundation, in partnership with Crossover Basketball Ambassadors (CBA), has taken a bold step toward reducing crime and social deviance in Kawangware by leveraging the unifying power of basketball. The initiative, launched with a dynamic basketball tournament on August 24th, saw participation from 185 local children and youth, signaling strong community engagement and enthusiasm.
With a sponsorship of KES 150,000 from Rockey Africa Foundation, the event went beyond showcasing athletic talent—it offered a safe, structured environment that encouraged discipline, teamwork, and mentorship. The tournament is part of a larger vision to transform lives in underserved neighborhoods through consistent sports programs and spiritual guidance.
Founded in 2023, Crossover Basketball Ambassadors operates a facility in Kawangware next to Gatina Primary School, combining basketball training with Bible study and community service. Their holistic approach aims to empower youth to become positive change-makers in their communities.
“Our goal at Rockey Africa is to nurture safer, stronger communities,” said Robert Kamau Wachira, CEO of Rockey Africa. “By supporting initiatives like CBA, we’re helping create a generation of youth who believe in themselves and in building better futures.”
Beyond the tournament, CBA runs immersive basketball camps, holiday tournaments, Bible study groups, and local service projects like clean-ups and tree planting—all geared toward instilling purpose, faith, and a sense of civic responsibility.
The success of this partnership underscores the transformative role of grassroots sports in curbing crime and inspiring the youth to rise above their circumstances. Together, Rockey Africa and CBA are proving that meaningful change starts at the community level—with opportunity, mentorship, and a basketball.
